P.J.A.S. Technician Information (6th Grade)

Dear Parents,
On Saturday, February 23, the 7th and 8th grade students will be presenting their P.J.A.S. experiments in the regional competition at California University of PA. During these presentations, we need students to be technicians. The function of the technician is to time each presentation. We are hoping that our 6th grade students can volunteer to be technicians. Being a technician will give your child valuable insight to the program for next year’s competition.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide transportation to the campus. You could arrange for them to ride with one of the students that are competing in the competition or you could transport them. A free lunch will be provided for them. Your child should be dressed appropriately (Church-like). They would need to be at

PJAS State Competition Rules

Insist on proper behavior:
q No running, no throwing, no horseplay are permitted at any time.
q Students must wear their nametags at all times. Nametags must be on the lanyard, worn around the neck with the name clearly visible from the front.
q Nametags must not be worn on pant legs and belts.
q All students must observe all curfews and must be quiet after lights out.
What to bring:
q Your Project – all of your presentation materials (note cards, transparencies, posters and pen or pencil)
q Dress will be casual for all events, except that you will need dress clothes for your presentation. You will be walking long distances so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for the weather. You may wish to bring a swimsuit.
q Any medication that is needed for medical problems such as allergies, asthma, diabetes, etc.
What NOT to bring:
q Boom Boxes, Radios, etc.
q Laser pointers
q Roller Blades, Skates, or Skateboards
q Water Guns or Super Soakers
q Alcohol and/or illegal drugs
q Candles or incense
q Any item that may cause injury to you or others.
q Penn State Security reserves the right to confiscate any items that may cause injury or be hazardous to you or others.
Presenters
Presenters are expected to study the schedule listed in the front of the state book. Attendance is mandatory at all meetings, sessions and ceremonies. It is your responsibility to be present and on time.
Check the state book immediately for your project judging unit. Make sure that you know the time and location of your judging unit. Campus maps are provided. Shuttle buses are available.
If there is a problem (i.e., not in program, wrong category) tell your sponsor at once. You and your sponsor should report to one of the change sessions listed on the schedule. Session changes will not be made.
